Master of Science in Sports Nutrition

Winning and losing in sports is often the culmination of making the right decisions at the right time. Proper training, recovery, and coaching are all essential keys to elite performance. The role of nutrition has become understood as an increasingly key component for an athlete to unlock their performance potential. The combination of the best nutritional and supplement plan that is based on the individual sport is now considered an essential element of the training program.
The Master of Science in Sports Nutrition at New York Chiropractic College is built on the foundation of using an evidence-based approach to sports nutrition to enhance athletic performance and recovery.
Two years. 36 credits. All online.
Students typically enroll in six credits of coursework each 15-week trimester over the course of two years. Coursework covers macro- and micronutrients, applied exercise physiology, nutrition for strength athletes, nutrition for endurance athletes, dietary supplements and sports performance.
- Candidates are required to have successfully completed 90 semester hours (or 136 quarter hours) of undergraduate study.
- At least nine credit hours shall consist of the biosciences (C or better).
- Overall grade point average must be 2.5 or higher.
- While a background in healthcare is not required in order to be accepted into the program, it is highly recommended that applicants have a science or healthcare background to garner the most from the program.
The Master of Science in Sports Nutrition program places emphasis on the principles of quality patient-centered care through the analysis of evidence and the utilization of the highest standards in nutritional assessment, intervention, and the promotion of optimal drug free sports performance.
Learn to apply the knowledge and skills needed to become a sports nutritionist by utilizing a broad spectrum of assessment and nutritional therapeutic options. Analyze and discuss case histories including dietary patterns, exercise physiology, and sport-specific training requirements. Upon graduation, you will be equipped to design personalized nutritional programs for sports performance and recovery, incorporating diet and recommendations for nutritional supplementation (e.g., vitamins, minerals, botanicals, and other nutritional products).
Prepare for a career in sports nutrition with the highest standards of assessment, intervention, and case management. New York Chiropractic College alumni can be found working independently in private practice, working with sports teams, doing clinical research, and industry consulting, and more.

The Master of Science in Sports Nutrition is not designed to lead to the Registered Dietician (RD) credential. Graduates of the program may not, without holding the appropriate certification, use the term Certified Dietician or Certified Nutritionist in New York State.

The MS in Sports Nutrition program is offered completely online. Our expert faculty provide lectures and interactive weekly discussions via the online format for instruction with a personal touch. Online lectures are supplemented by assignments to be completed both independently and in groups.
