Northeast College of Health Sciences recently hosted Spring 2021 ceremonies honoring students, beginning with the Transitions Ceremony on July 29 and then both online and in-person Commencement events on Saturday, July 31. Degrees were conferred to 78 students at the Commencement ceremonies -- the first class to graduate under the institution's new name, Northeast College of Health Sciences.

Starting the day off at 9:30 a.m. EDT, Northeast College's July 31st in-person Commencement ceremony was held at the Standard Process Health and Fitness Center, where 27 Doctor of Chiropractic graduates and one Master of Science in Digital Imaging student received their degrees. This ceremony was the first to celebrate graduates in person since the Fall Commencement in December of 2019 and the start of the global pandemic.

The online Commencement Ceremony, held at 1 p.m., celebrated Northeast College's newest graduates of the Master of Science in Applied Clinical Nutrition and Master of Science in Human Anatomy and Physiology Instruction programs, awarding 50 students master's degrees.

Awards for excellence in academics, leadership and clinical practice were presented during both ceremonies and remarks were delivered by Northeast College President Dr. Michael Mestan.

"Today the health science professions gain a very promising new addition. Your future patients, clients, and students will be fortunate to have you as a mentor -- a partner in their quest for health and knowledge." Dr. Mestan said. "We are proud of you. We have confidence in you and now send you into the world to lead -- to make your own opportunities -- and to make life better for others and find joy in serving humanity."

The previous four commencement events at the College had been held online to safeguard the community during the global pandemic and adhere to New York State health and safety guidelines.

"We have eagerly awaited this moment to celebrate in person. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate our graduates who have worked so hard for this moment," Dr. Mestan said.

Just a couple of days before Commencement, on July 29, seventh-trimester chiropractic students received their white coats during the Spring 2021 Transitions Ceremony.

Held in the Standard Process Health & Fitness Center, the event honored the 20 students who moved into the clinical phase of their education and was available for family and friends to attend in-person and also view via livestream on the northeastcollege.edu website. Awards were presented for achievements in academic and clinical excellence, and alumnus Ryan Barker (D.C. '10, MSACN '10, MSHAPI '13), the owner of Oswego Family Chiropractic, delivered the keynote address.
