100 NYCC Students Receive Degrees as Final Centennial-Year Graduates

The final graduating class of New York Chiropractic College's centennial year walked the Commencement stage on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, with 83 students receiving their Doctorate of Chiropractic degrees and 17 more receiving their Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies degrees.

NYCC 2019 Fall graduates were sent off with words from Dr. Richard Brown, secretary-general of the World Federation of Chiropractic, the global not-for-profit organization which exists to support, empower, promote and advance chiropractors and the chiropractic profession.

The greeting on behalf of the Board of Trustees was presented by NYCC alumnus Rick Rosa, D.C. '96, who recognized both the graduates and their "cheerleaders" in the celebration and culmination of "many years of hard work and sacrifice ... the blood, sweat and tears of a professional education."

Awards for excellence in community service, leadership and clinical practice were presented to students by NYCC President Dr. Michael Mestan, who also honored Dr. Lisa Bloom, assistant dean of Preclinical Chiropractic Education with the designation of professor emeritus. The Committee on Faculty Appointments and Promotions unanimously recommended Bloom based on her dedication and service to NYCC and its community during the last 24 years of her College career.

Transition Ceremony Celebrates Students Next Phase of Education

Two days before the Commencement ceremony, nearly 100 NYCC seventh-trimester students walked the same stage during the Rite of Transition Ceremony, a celebration of students who will begin the clinical phase of their education and begin working with patients. Awards were presented to recognize members of the class for achievements in academic and clinical excellence.

Commencement and the Transition Ceremony were both held in the NYCC Standard Process Health & Fitness Center, at the Seneca Falls campus.
