| Description: | Applied Kinesiology in Clinical Practice Applied kinesiology (AK) can be defined as the clinical application of the study of movement and function. It is a continually evolving system that provides the doctor with the skills and knowledge to purposely, systematically, and logically ascertain the optimal treatment for the patient. The AK doctor determines what is not functioning within the body’s systems and gets them functioning again as a whole. Specific muscle tests are used as a primary feedback mechanism to examine how a person's body is functioning. When properly applied, the outcome of an AK diagnosis will determine the best form of therapy for the patient. Therapies to induce or restore individual normalcy include but are not limited to: specific joint manipulation or mobilization, various myofascial therapies, cranial techniques, meridian therapy, clinical nutrition, dietary management, emotional support or modalities, lifestyle changes, and various reflex procedures. Since AK draws together the core elements of many complementary therapies, it provides an interdisciplinary approach to health care. It is true, functional integrative health care. Eugene Charles D.C, DIBAK Dr. Eugene Charles received his doctor of chiropractic degree from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in 1987 and in 1994 he earned his Diplomate degree in applied kinesiology. He currently teaches two 100-hour postgraduate courses certifying doctors of all disciplines in applied kinesiology. One of the courses is in Manhattan and one is up in upstate New York near The New York Chiropractic College. Dr. Charles recently authored a manual entitled Precision Adjusting For The Master Chiropractor. This manual presents, for the first time, a fitness regimen geared toward chiropractors and the chiropractic adjustment, and a complete guide to precision adjusting. Eugene has also written Antidotes For Indiscretions™ to help people enjoy good health even with a few unhealthy habits and 365 Emotional Vitamins™ as a daily dose of inspiring food for thought. Dr. Charles has appeared as a health expert on the WB Morning News and is a frequent guest on the radio show Global Medicine Review. He was also featured on the cover of Chiropractic Products Magazine in April 2006 Dr. Charles maintains a private practice in New York City and can be contacted at (800) 351- 5450 or at www.charlesseminars.com. |

| Description: | use herbs in chiropractic practice? Chiropractors are members of a hands-on healing profession that uses natural means to correct imbalances of structure and function. We know that different disease states are related to chronic subluxation patterns in the various regions of the spine. Both chiropractors and herbal practitioners seek to maintain health by creating an environment in which disease cannot flourish. Both healing systems share a belief in restoring homeostasis by using natural, non-invasive, non-synthetic methods. This allows the body’s own intelligence, free of interference and imbalances, to create wellness. As Chiropractic is integrated within the nations health care system it is important for the practitioner to have an undertanding of the differnet natural helath care methods patient's utilize, as well as, serve as an authority in the administration of a wide range of natural interventions. |

As Chiropractic is integrated within the nation's health care system it is important for the practitioner to have an undertanding of the different natural heatlh care methods patient's utilize, as well as, serve as an authority in the administration of a wide range of natural interventions. |

| Description: | There is a growing concern that our current health care system is failing. According to the National Academy’s “Institute of Medicine”, health care in America “…does not provide consistent, high quality medical care to all people. … (It) harms patients too frequently and fails to deliver potential benefits." The best way to address the issues that are contributing to health care failure is by incorporating the principles of integrative care. The preliminary steps toward its implementation and fundamental changes to our current system have already begun. Now, the question that we as Chiropractors must answer is “What Role Shall We Play in An Integrative Health Care System? |

| Description: | Among lay people, the term “trauma” generally brings to mind dramatic, singular events, such as motor vehicle accidents, slip-and-fall injuries, or violent assaults. The better-known effects of trauma are such things as fracture, dislocation, sprain and strain. Chiropractic views the topic of trauma through more of a wide-angle lens. From our point of view, any significant biomechanical stress is potentially traumatic, and the effects of this trauma can be both more subtle and more long-lasting than the familiar acute problems mentioned above. This course focuses on a usually neglected aspect of trauma – the somatovisceral effects of traumatic subluxation. |

| Description: | “The SI joint has remained remote from the understanding of most clinicians. Yet, all mechanical loads in walking, standing, and sitting pass through the SI joint. Its role as a primary source of back pain may not be major, but because of our continued ignorance of its status and potential for injury, it usually escapes any notice at all.” Vert Mooney, MD. This quote forms the basis of this presentation. Upon completion of this 3 credit course the clinician will understand S.I. joint pain as well as how to differentially diagnosis this condition from other sources of low back pain. |
