Description: INTEGRATING CHIROPRACTIC AND POSTURE REHAB EXERCISE Progressive Exercises and Biomechanical Concepts for Acute Care, Rehab Care and Aging Well COURSE DESCRIPTION Aging baby boomers create an opportunity for the chiropractic profession for one simple reason: Boomers don't want to stop" doing" as they age. Chiropractors help patients during insurance-covered acute care, but in today's managed care world, a chiropractor must communicate effectively with patients who want to do what it takes to maintain an active lifestyle. Empowering patients with common-sense knowledge, self-care instructions and effective exercises increases the likelihood they will choose, and take financial responsibility for, non-acute rehab and wellness care. Posture rehab exercise is a bridge from acute to wellness care and successful aging. Improving posture does not merely mean standing up straighter. Improving posture means improving the body's functional stability, or balance. Integrating Chiropractic and Posture &hab Exercise attendees learn to do and teach progressive posture rehab exercises so they can effectively implement posture rehab on Monday morning. Progressive posture exercises are a billable service, easily integrated into a chiropractic practice. Detailed protocols are taught during hands-on lab time, and progressions and peel backs for individual customization are demonstrated. Initially, the Wall Protocol strengthens posture awareness and aligns subjective postural perceptions with objective reality by teaching controlled independent movement of the pelvis, head, and torso. Then, the Posture Ball Protocol extends this awareness by training the body to move in three dimensions with control, strengthening adaptively weak links in the kinetic chain of posture. In the lecture portion of the seminar attendees learn posture principles which align the chiropractic message with contemporary research and the conventional wisdom people hear in other parts of their lives. Interactive patient demonstrations then help communicate principles of biomechanics and the importance of chiropractic care to restore and maintain strong posture and motion. Doctors who integrate posture rehab protocols into their practice help people active as they age by restoring joint motion with chiropractic, and strengthening posture with progressive focused exercises. The combination can become a magic bullet for baby boomers to age well, as well as an opportunity for chiropractors, and the chiropractic profession, to flourish in 21st century healthcare. 12 CE hour Course Outline (10 and 15 hour versions also available) (i) 2(j()5 BODYZONE. Description: Outcomes Based Practice by Stephen M. Perle, D.C., M.S. COURSE DESCRIPTION Outcomes Based Practice is a 6 hour course of instruction on outcomes based practice. Outcomes assessments are a relative new comer to the health care marketplace in general and even more so to the chiropractic profession. While the use of outcome measures may appear at first to be a tool of managed care to reduce reimbursement for chiropractic services, in reality properly used outcome measures are likely to improve the communication between the provider and the payor of services which in some cases may result in higher reimbursement rates or the approval of longer treatment plans. The use of appropriate outcome measures allows the doctor to document the need for services, the effectiveness of those services and provides both the doctor, the patient and the insurance company with objective benchmarks that allow for the determination of appropriate duration of care and appropriate end-points to care. After completion the doctor should know the reasons that outcomes are of benefit both to the doctor and to the patient, how to determine what outcome measures are appropriate for use and how to use a variety of outcome measures in practice. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Leaner will be able to 1. Know the use of outcomes assessment instruments and how to select appropriate one for use in practice. 2. Perform various objective outcomes assessments of functional capacity 3. Understand how to implement an outcomes based practice. Stephen M. Perle, D.C., M.S. is a Professor of Clinical Sciences at the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic. A 1983 graduate of Texas Chiropractic College and 2002 graduate of Southern Connecticut State University with an MS in Exercise Sciences. He practiced sports chiropractic in NYC before his faculty appointment, serving as medical director of the 1991 USA/Mobile Outdoor Track and Field Championships and continues to serve as Chiropractic Coordinator for the ING NYC Marathon. In 2004 he was named the ACA Academician of the Year and the following year was promoted to full professor, the first chiropractor at the University of Bridgeport to achieve that rank. He has published numerous papers in the peer reviewed literature as well as many textbook chapters. Since 2002 Dr. Perle has written a column on ethics in Dynamic Chiropractic.

Description: Clinical Posture Assessment, Therapy & Exercise Create a Posture Practice Monday Morning... Learn research-based biomechanical concepts and exercises and experience them for yourself during this "lecture & lab" format seminar. Our hands-on approach ensures you learn the techniques to not only assess and strengthen your patient's posture, but your own as well. Posture principles and patient-friendly demos from Dr. Weiniger's new book, Stand Taller-Live Longer, provide a practical framework to begin creating a Posture Practice on Monday morning. "Move Well to Age Well" is a concept supported by basic biology, current research and common sense. Exercise helps bodies age better, but you can only exercise in the ways you can move. Discover the importance of full-range motion, and the effect of loss of mobility on function and mortality in older adults. You will learn essential tools like balance exam procedures and StrongPostureTM exercises to potentially reverse the downward slide frequently seen in later life. Meet Your Instructor - Dr. Steven P. Weiniger Since graduating from New York Chiropractic College, Dr. Weiniger has focused on posture rehab and biomechanics in his private chiropractic practice outside of Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Weiniger is a post graduate faculty member for the University of Bridgeport Chiropractic College and lectures nationally on posture and rehab exercise. He is the author of the Posture Assessment chapter in Cipriano's Photographic Manual of Regional Orthopedic and Neurological Tests, 4th Edition. In December 2005, Dr. Weiniger participated as an appointed delegate in the White House Conference on Aging, a decennial event held to develop recommendations for the President and Congress on issues, policy and research in the field of aging. His articles on posture, anti-aging, exercise, and practice management are published by newspapers and journals across the country. Dr. Weiniger also serves as Managing Partner of BodyZone.com.
