Our Timeline of Progress Where we’ve been and what we’ve achieved since our founding in 1919. 1919 – NYCC founded in New York City as Columbia Institute of Chiropractic by Dr. Frank Dean – first president serving for nearly 40 years 1950s – NYCC grows by merging with Columbia College of Chiropractic and Atlantic States Chiropractic Institute 1959 – Dr. Ernest Napolitano named President – he serves as president until 1985, helping NYCC achieve national prominence 1979 – College granted an Absolute Charter by the New York State Board of Regents and professional accreditation of its Doctor of Chiropractic degree program from the Council on Chiropractic Education 1980 – College moves to Old Brookville, Long Island, opens clinics in Greenvale and Levittown 1985 – NYCC was awarded regional accreditation by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. 1985 – After the passing of Dr. Napolitano he is succeeded by Dr. Neil Stern as acting president from 1985-87 and Dr. Keith Asplin, president from 1987-89 1989 – Unable to expand in Long Island, NYCC purchases the former Eisenhower College campus in Seneca Falls, NY 1989 – Dr. Kenneth Padgett appointed president – his motto of “Tradition in Transition” heralds NYCC’s greatest period of facility and technological expansion during the 1990s 1991 – Seneca Falls campus opens on 286-acre site, and chiropractic health center opened in Syracuse as Greenvale center closes 1992 – Ernest
G. Napolitano Postgraduate Center opens – 5,000 square-foot
annex adjoins the Levittown center, providing a home for the
College’s a postgraduate and continuing education programs’ 1994 – NYCC’s third chiropractic health center opened in Depew New York, near Buffalo 1994 – New 9,300 square-foot academic building constructed on the Seneca Falls campus to provide additional classroom and laboratory space – today’s research and video teleconferencing center 1998 – New 38,000 square-foot academic building opened, featuring lecture halls and offices equipped with advanced instructional technology 1999 – Expanded 17,200-square foot Depew Chiropractic Health Center debuts 2000 – Dr. Frank Nicchi, a 1978 alumnus and longtime faculty member, appointed President of NYCC 2002 – Absolute Charter from NYS Board of Regents amended to allow College to offers new degrees in Bachelor of Professional Studies and Masters of Science 2003 – Seneca Falls Health Center, a 19,400 square-foot multidisciplinary integrated healthcare facility, opened 2003 – Former Seneca Falls Health Center designated as Campus Health Center – serving as internship site and established to meet the healthcare needs of campus community and low-income residents (Syracuse center closed) 2003 – Two new master’s degree programs in Acupuncture (M.S.A) and Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (M.S.A.O.M.) approved by NYS Education Department and offered for first time |
